"It's time for you to get some new cell phones, quick."
In a rather obvious development, the government is using its newly proclaimed powers to track any phone records of any American citizens to root out and silence critics:
A senior federal law enforcement official tells ABC News the government is tracking the phone numbers we (Brian Ross and Richard Esposito) call in an effort to root out confidential sources.[...]
Other sources have told us that phone calls and contacts by reporters for ABC News, along with the New York Times and the Washington Post, are being examined as part of a widespread CIA leak investigation.
This would be the leak investigation springing from the disclosure that we were running a global network of secret prisons. So, not only is this NSA surveillance program not solely directed at Al Qaeda or Al Qaeda links, it's not even limited to detecting or controlling terrorism. It's being used to find, punish, and eliminate opponents of the Administration's policies.
