Jesus Would Cap His Mother*ing Ass!

Liberals, and specifically New York liberals, have often been asked whether we learned anything from 9/11.

I'll tell you what I learned on 9/11: Religious extremists are the the mortal enemies of a free society. All religious extremists. The war today (and for the future) is not against Islam, or terrorism, or distant dictatorships. It is against the elements within our own society that have no respect for freedom or the rule of law, without apology.

Islam speaks of two types of jihad, lesser and the greater. Lesser jihad is what we often hear about - war against the infidel, war to defend Islam or Islamic interests however they are defined. The greater jihad is the struggle within, against the base desires and instincts of the self. That is the true nature of the struggle against terrorism. It is not against a distant enemy who dresses funny, worships on a different weekday, and speaks another language. It is with those who profess to believe the same things we do, and yet subvert everything we stand for. There, my friends, is your fifth column.

"I may be able to speak the languages of men and even of angels, but if I have no love, my speech is no more than a noisy gong or a clanging bell. I may have the gift of inspired preaching; I may have all knowledge and understand all secrets; I may have all the faith needed to move mountains - but if I have no love, I am nothing."
