Bitter Vindication Watch: Plamegate

Back in the early days of this blog I made a few predictions, one of which was, "The various lingering Administration scandals and investigations will bear no fruit until after the next Congressional elections, and then only if Democrats make a comback and take at least one house of Congress."

With the Plame scandal heating up the news recently and the investigation reaching its close I'd been afraid that I might be proven wrong on this one. So in that light I can take some relief from this development:

Associate Attorney General Robert McCallum is "likely" to be named as acting deputy A.G., a DOJ official who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the matter tells NEWSWEEK. But McCallum may be seen as having his own conflicts: he is an old friend of President Bush's and a member of his Skull and Bones class at Yale. One question: how much authority Comey's successor will have over Fitzgerald.

If you're familiar with the hierarchy of the FBI (and who isn't?) you'll remember that McCallum has tried pulling a few strings on investigations for the Bush Administration before. (later overruled)

Looks like I'm still in the game!
