The Greatest City on Earth
I spent last night on the Great Lawn in Central Park, chatting with friends over wine, cheese, and other assorted picnic fixings while the New York Philharmonic played Dvorak's Carnival, opus 92, Cello Concerto in B minor, opus 104, and Symphony No. 9 in E minor, opus 95 "From the New World." Afterwards, fireworks exploded over Belvedere Castle with the midtown skyline as the backdrop.
Last weekend, Roberta and I hit the Siren Festival out on Coney Island. We saw Spoon, Q and Not U, Detachment Kit, and other bands, all with the Cyclone whirling past overhead. Then we went and got a 64oz Rheingold beer ($6!) from the original Nathan's hot dog stand.
Both events were, of course, free. I'm so goddamn spoiled.
