London Bombing

There's precious little clear about what's happening in London right now. These things take time to sort out, so I don't think we'll know with any certainty the exact nature or extent of the bombings in London for a few days. Responsibility seems to have been claimed already, and the pattern the attack seems to have taken is very reminiscent of the 2004 Madrid bombings. Still, could the timing or target be at all related to the 2012 Olympics decision, or is this just a coincidence?

My heart goes out to the people of London and Britain generally. By all accounts, they are handling it in the best possible way - calm coordination.

Nobody comes here first for their news, so this is likely to come too late to help anyone out, but the best source for up-to-the-minute news on this is Wikipedia's entry on it, updated continuously. Also see the Fistful of Euros blog.

Update 7/7/05 15:44: That's the 2004 Madrid bombings, not 2003. Fixed.
