Best of the Web

I'd like to introduce a regular feature for this blog, tentatively titled Best of the Web. This feature should have two main benefits: first, the low effort level involved will help train me to update this thing regularly; second, it will provide a quick heads-up to any passersby that useful things are being said elsewhere on the internet. Those of you familiar with the "Link Dump" concept should have no trouble following the learning curve here.

And so:

  • Juan Cole's clear-eyed explanation of the situation in Iraq. Depressing, but cathartic. It's nice to see straight, even if you don't like what you see.
  • A similarly clear-eyed (and somewhat less depressing. somewhat) exploration of our options on the Korean peninsula from Duck of Minerva. The rest of their stuff so far is also very good, so we'll forgive them the strange and overly obscure title.
  • The ACLU's compilation of all the FOIA releases on torture in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Gitmo. We're very glad that somebody is picking up the slack left by the Bush administration, Congress, and the media.
  • To mix it up a little, here's a link to a conservative blog that actually contains rational discussions of policy topics. I disagree with a lot of what they say, but it's really refreshing to hear people on the other side actually reason things out and critique their own, rather than just demagogue and throw around accusations of treason.
  • Also, a big shout-out to the Great Concavity - we just love the oblique literary references here - on it's own blog birth. A sharp mind there, from whom I expect great things.

That should get the ball rolling.
