Best of the Blogs

My few (my happy few) readers out there will probably have noticed the list of blogs over to the left already, but I figured I'd give some of them a quick introduction and encourage you all to check them out.

  • What can I say about Fafblog? Fafblog occupies that small intersection on the Venn diagram of chaos, comedy, biting political commentary, and pie. It tingles and effervesces.
  • Slacktivist is written by Fred Clark, an excellent specimen of the endangered Left-Wing Baptist. If you ever doubt how far from Christ's teachings the present-day Religious Right has fallen, Slacktivist stands as that shining blog on a hill for all. In particular, his evisceration of LaHaye and Jenkin's Left Behind series is a must-read. And anyone who works in two Buffy references in the space of three posts is obviously on the right page.
  • If you're in the mood for either sarcastic political commentary or kitty porn, look no further than The Poor Man.
  • Matt Yglesias is the blogger I want to be. Funny, insightful, and wildly prolific. The man writes not only his own blog, but contributes to Tapped, TPM Cafe, does actual full articles for The American Prospect, and freelances here and there. Best of all, he has that rarity of talents for determining what's important in an issue and what's merely muddying the waters.

Additionally, let me give a firm shout-out to Slate.com's Today's Papers column. Every morning at dawn they summarize and link the major stories from the major national newspapers around the country, comparing and cross-checking the different angles and levels of coverage. If you, like me, have a full-time life of your own and yet still want to keep up on what's going on in the world, Today's Papers is a fine way to get a quick overview of what's going on - and with value-added context and wisdom, unlike robo-aggregators like Google News. I can't believe I once thought reading one daily newspaper would make me informed.

fafblog also happens to be at the very least co-written by the guy who used to do fluble.com (a comic) and who used to live in brown's tech house. go figure.

Really? I've always been curious. How'd you find that out?

By going backwards. I was trying to figure out Chris Mastrangelo was up to, post-fluble.

Fafnir is a stuffed bunny, btw.

Oh and to make a third annoying post, I'd just like to point out that Chris is originally from Syracuse. I used to read fluble in HJ, the high school area wide newspaper.

Wow! And of course, who do Fafnir and Giblets live with, who's always suffering for their adventures? Chris.

Now I picture this guy sitting at home making these plush toys talk to each other in funny voices. And it does nothing to lower the entertainment value.
